First Tesla Model Y owners are getting their cars and the automaker already published the Owner’s Manual. One thing that requires special attention there is a heat pump, that must be very appreciated in some markets with cold climate.
The heat pump works quite simple: it takes the heat from its source (it might be the outdoor air, as well as the heat generated by battery and drivetrain) and brings it to the cabin heater through a heat exchanger. In general, that is similar to air conditioning system. Obviously, the heat pump will be a solid support for Tesla standard heater — the pump requires much less energy and its efficiency is confirmed by its wide use in buildings. That means Model Y range increase in cold temperature conditions, however, exact numbers are a subject of future conversations.
