Recently European Union accepted several new restrictions for automatic cruise-control systems. Actually, the revision to UN/ECE R79 regulation oversees the steering of driver assistance systems, adding some limitations since such systems are being under development.
To comply with new regulations, Tesla had to limit some of Autopilot’s capabilities in Europe – the new 2019.16.1 software is already available.
Here are the limitations:
– adjusted limit of how far the steering wheel can turn with enabled Autosteer. It means that Autopilot will be unable to complete some sharp turns;
– to initiate Auto Lane Change, the turn signal must be engaged to the first detent and the lane change must start within 5 seconds.
Tesla claims that the update is applicable for Model S and Model X, since EU-spec Model 3 is already compliant with new regulations.
