Dynamic charging may serve as a potential solution of energy shortage and range anxiety of EV owners. Although several companies are working on that technology nowadays, Qualcomm recently presented the most advanced solution so far.

To demonstrate their technology, Qualcomm built a 100 meters long test track in France. Wireless system is capable of charging the electric vehicles with an output of up to 20 kW at highway speeds. The company uses two all-electric Renault Kangoo vans equipped with receivers – both vehicles will be running efficiency tests throughout the 2017.

Since the charging power of the dynamic EV charging technology is comparably low, such pavements won’t probably serve as the main source of power for electric cars. However, the technlogy might be applicable with the development of self-driving cars and long-distance commutes, especially considering electric trucks.
