Various cities in different countries are transitioning to eco-friendly public transport, though Chinese Shenzhen recently showed how it should be done. Over 16,000 electric buses are now carrying passengers in 12-million city, completely displacing traditional buses with internal combustion engines.
Reportedly, 510 charging stations with 8,000 charging points were deployed in Shenzhen in order to fulfill the electric buses fleet with energy. Expectedly, this should allow to save about 345,000 tons of fuel and reduce CO2 emission by 1.35 tons annually.
Moreover, Shenzhen’s head of the public transport department claimed, that now the city aims at the taxi cabs. Now 62% of 12,000 taxis in the city are already electric, while by 2020 this share should reach 100%.
