The electric prototype made the hill climb faster than any car ever entered this race.
VW I.D. R Pikes Peak finished the race in 7 minutes 57 seconds, that is an absolute record in any categories and drivetrains. The previous record was set by no other than Sebastien Loeb in Peugeot 208 T16 back to 2013.
The race track is 12.4 mile (19.9 km) long, starting at 9,000 feet (2,743 m) above sea level and finishing at 14,115 feet (4,302 m). The route configuration demands for ideal balance between car’s power, handling and weight.
I.D. R Pikes Peak prototype is equipped with two 680 hp electric motors and a 43 kWh battery pack. The electric car launches from 0 to 60 mph in about 2.25 seconds.
