Tesla Autopilot had a massive upgrade back to 2016 when the completely new hardware had been introduced – including 8 cameras, a radar, ultrasonic sensors and Nvidia supercomputer.

Recently Tesla reported an upgraded version of autopilot hardware 2.0 to take place in Model 3, Model S and Model X being produced now. The upgrade includes a new computing device based on the same Nvidia Drive PX2 system, but in a new more powerful configuration. The aim is to ensure the full autonomy in the near future.

However, that is not a must-have upgrade, since it is not obvious that only new configuration of Nvidia GPU will be able to provide power for full autonomy. Though, if that will turn out to be true, Tesla is going to upgrade cars with the latest version of hardware.
