Actually, that is not the first record NIO EP9 sets at the German track – last year’s result of 7:05.12 became the best among other electric vehicles (and still very fast for any car), though the cold weather and a little moist track did not allow the car to unleash its full performance. But during its latest run EP9 beated the production car record – including LaFerrari, McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and even the recent bombshell Lamborghini Huracan Performante.
All-electric NIO EP9 finished Nordschleife – one of the most dangerous racing tracks on Earth with over 12 miles (20 km) disctance and lots of blind corners, hills and bumps – in 6:45.90. It is about 6 seconds faster than Lamborghini Huracan Performante with active aerodynamic elements -EP 9 became the fastest production production vehicle ever entering Nordschleife.
Despite the price of $1.48 million, NIO EP9 really is a production vehicle – 7 cars are already produced and the company plans to make about 10 more. Considering other record-breakers being produced in even lower volumes (for example, McLaren F1 XP5 with 5 cars produced), NIO EP9 can probably keep the title of fastest production car on Nordschleife.
