While it still should be available in the US and Japan.

BMW i3 is one of the world’s most popular electric car. So far it has been offered with two variants of drivetrain – purely electric version and the one equipped with gasoline range extender, that generates energy in case of low charge.

Last week BMW announced that REx version won’t be available in Europe anymore. The cause is in launch of an upgraded battery pack with higher capacity (42.2 kWh), that is expected to allow approximately 260 km (160 miles) of range in 2019 model. BMW claims that the increased range is going to decrease the demand for REx version.

Nonetheless, BMW i3 with gasoline range extender will still be available in USA and Japan.
